The Grundy Transit System (GTS) is getting you where you need to go! We provide public transportation for ALL residents and guests of Grundy County. We provide service anywhere in Grundy County and areas in Joliet three (3) times each day. Service is available Monday – Friday, 6:00 am – 6:00 pm. All GTS vehicles are equipped with lifts making our fleet entirely accessible.
The Joliet service area includes popular destinations such as: Joliet Union Station, Will County Courthouse, Joliet Junior College (main campus and City Center), University of St. Francis, Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital, Louis Joliet Mall, Unemployment Office, Social Security Office, and the DHS Office.
GTS does not provide emergency transportation services. Our drivers are not paramedics. Persons who are experiencing a medical crisis should call 911.
To schedule your ride, call (888) 786-0862 with the addresses of your pick-up and drop-off locations and the times you need to travel. All requests for rides must be made 2-3 business days in advance. Same day service may be provided based on vehicle availability. The dispatch office answers calls from 8 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday. Drivers are not allowed to take reservations.
Rides are only $4.00 each way per person in Grundy County and $6.00 each way per person outside of Grundy County. Exact change or a check is required, our drivers do not carry change on the buses.
Fare Cards, are available for purchase for $30.00 on all GTS buses, in the business office, and all city and village halls in Grundy County.
Passengers who require assistance, may have a travel assistant accompany them on the bus for free.
In the case of inclement weather, the Grundy Transit System may not transport to ensure the safety of passengers and drivers. Safety is always our #1 priority. Check our Facebook page for closure information, you will receive a phone call if your ride is affected by the closure.
GTS Funding
Grundy County is the Grantee for the Grundy Transit System. GTS is funded through Federal and State grants (which require a local match), annual contributions from Grundy County, Village of Minooka, Village of Diamond, and Joliet Junior College, bus advertising, donations, and local service contracts.
